Public Notice – Now Hiring Part-Time Building Maintenance Mechanic

The Town of Tyre is seeking a qualified, dependable Part-Time Building Maintenance Mechanic. This position is responsible for performing skilled building and mechanical maintenance work to ensure that Town facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.

About the Position

The Building Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of skilled maintenance, repair, and construction-related tasks, both indoors and outdoors. Work may involve carpentry, masonry, plumbing, painting, electrical work, heating systems, general building repairs, and grounds maintenance. The role requires someone who can work independently, exercise good judgment, and adapt to different maintenance needs as they arise.

Typical Duties (Illustrative):

  • Perform carpentry tasks including cabinets, doors, windows, shelving, floors, and locks
  • Install and repair water lines and plumbing fixtures
  • Repair windows, roofs, doors, walls, and other facility components
  • Perform masonry work such as pouring concrete
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment and fixed property
  • Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces
  • Load/unload materials and maintain basic records as needed

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • General knowledge of modern building and grounds maintenance practices
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools (saws, drills, electric testers, etc.)
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to complete assigned projects efficiently

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience in general building construction, maintenance, or repair work in one or more of the skilled trades
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License required
